Ghana

Proposed focus area

The Odaw in Accra: from city drains to the sea.

Geography and context

Ghana sits on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa. The Odaw drains the Accra area and reaches the Atlantic by way of the Korle Lagoon.

A 2023 catchment study found that plastic moved most heavily in the urban river, and that litter on land was densest in the urban tidal zone.
